Rally Round someone you care about
Rally Round is a fast-growing secure and free online network with helpful features that makes it easy to arrange help for either yourself or someone you care about. So far we have over 100 networks set up with over 240 members on the Isle of Wight.
Everyone needs a helping hand from time to time. You or someone you care about might be recovering from an operation, or a relative might have dementia and need help collecting shopping, tidying the garden, changing a light bulb, getting to an appointment or meeting up for a cuppa and a chat.
This is how it works – invite trusted friends or family to join your network, then add anything that needs doing to the ‘To Do List’ and someone in your network volunteers to lend a hand.
Text and email notifications let your network know when tasks are completed to keep everyone in the loop and the ‘Noticeboard’ allows you to share important information, such as local pharmacy locations or favourite foods.
It’s ideal for people with busy lives and is a safe and easy way to bring people and communities together, to support those in need. It was originally designed to help frail older people and their family but it can also be used in other ways, from coordinating volunteers to arranging the school run.
Supported by the voluntary sector Isle Help partnership and local care system as part of the new model of care on the Island, it uses the same technology used by banks to ensure information remains secure.
Michael Bulpitt, Chief Executive, Community Action IW:
“Communities are stronger when they reach out to those who need extra support with everyday things such as collecting someone’s shopping or preparing a hot meal for someone convalescing after an operation. Rally Round is a practical tool to bring people together to help out with day to day tasks in a coordinated way. So whether you are a family member, friend or neighbour, everyone in a Rally Round network has the opportunity to lend a hand. We would encourage anyone who needs to coordinate support for someone they care for or even themselves to use Rally Round”
Paul Savill, Chief Executive, Citizen’s Advice Isle of Wight:
“We use Rally Round to help support some of our clients who are finding it harder than usual to manage everyday tasks. This has ranged from setting up meetings with mental health support teams or Care Navigators in their area. At Citizens Advice we want to provide the right information and support to help people better manage their lives. If anyone has any questions about Rally Round, our staff will be on hand to provide advice on how to use it.”
A Rally Round drop in session will be held at Aspire, Dover Street, Ryde on Monday, 9 April 1pm-3pm where you can find out more from the Community Action IW team.
