LGBT Youth Offer Prospectus Launched
Following the first round of applications to deliver youth services on the Island in July, further applications are being invited from the business, community and voluntary sectors for funding to deliver youth services for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people on the Island.
Whilst all new providers under the Youth Offer will provide inclusive services, Isle of Wight Council wants to ensure that lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people have dedicated services to help them to make successful and healthy transitions into adulthood.
This commitment concurs with the findings from the consultation which led to the development of the new-look youth offer, whereby young people generally felt that provision for LGBT young people was important, and particularly as LGBT young people feel more isolated than their peers from the mainland.
The council has allocated funding up to £14,000 across the next two and a half years to provide youth opportunities and positive activities for LGB&T young people aged 11 to 19 and up to 25 years with additional needs within a safe and secure environment.
For further information please read the attached prospectus and contact Trudy Shephard Community Youth Offer Development Officer on 01983 539375 if you have any further questions. The deadline for submissions is 5th September 2014.
