Youth Offer Prospectus – Sandown
With effect from 20 October 2014, organisations are being invited to bid for £15,500 funding to provide youth activities in Sandown as part of the Isle of Wight Council’s new youth offer. The funding, which is to cover a two and half year period until 31 March 2017, must be used to provide activities for 11 to 19 year olds (up to 25 years for those with additional needs) in the Sandown area only. Applications must be received by 5pm on Friday 7 November.
An evaluation panel will be held between 10-21 November 2014, with the chosen provider announced soon after.
Councillor Jonathan Bacon, Executive member for children’s services, said: “A number of exciting and modern activities are becoming available across the Island as part of the new youth offer. These include social enterprises, youth cafe’s, creative workshops and the development of life skills. Unfortunately, plans for providing activities in Sandown fell through at the last minute which means we are now accepting bids for a new organisation to come in and put on an offer in the town. Each bid received will be carefully examined and we will choose what we feel is the best one in providing positive activities for young people in Sandown.”
The Isle of Wight Council, in partnership with Community Action IW, recently awarded funding ranging from £10,000 to £200,000 to organisations who will deliver youth provision across the Island. These are The Footprint Trust, the YMCA, Brading Town Trust, Revive and SWAY (South Wight Area Youth), The Foyer (Ryde), West Wight Sports Centre, Island Scouts, Ventnor Town Council, Pan Together, Breakout Youth and Quay Arts (Newport) in partnership with Vectis Radio.
Some activities are available now, with others due to begin in the near future www.Facebook.com/iwyouthoffer
