People Management Skills.

People Management Skills

09:30 – 16:00, Friday 10th May

Riverside Centre, Newport

Very few people would be able to prove that managing people or managing difficult people comes to them naturally.

We tend to develop our people skills as we go through our careers and learn from the people we meet. Unfortunately, this means that we learn from great bosses as well as from bad!

So it comes as no surprise that, according to the 2015 research by Gallup, around 50% of people are leaving their jobs because of their boss. In other words, close to a half of managers and supervisors have difficulty in managing people. In turn, this lack of people management skills translates into significant financial and non-monetary losses.

In this one-day training course, you learn best practices and behaviours to help you build key components that make up an effective and successful manager able to get the best from people.  It offers an interactive and experiential approach to learning which is suitable for both, new team leaders and managers, and for those with experience who would like to enhance their people management skills.

The training course will cover the following key elements:

  • A Model for Management Excellence.
  • Management vs Leadership.
  • Managing with Emotional Intelligence and Emotional Agility.
  • Understanding and utilising different thinking, learning and communication styles.
  • Achieving goals through people.
  • Good practice in setting objectives and delegating, and how these support the performance management cycle.
  • Focusing performance through effective measures and utilising continuous appraisal techniques.
  • Developing others to achieve their potential.
  • Integrating mentoring and coaching to build performance.
  • Understanding the concepts of organisational culture and psychological contract.
  • By the end of the training you will be able to:
  • Use effective people management tools and techniques in your day-to-day work to get results.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively when giving feedback, instructions and other information.
  • Understand and use principles of induction, supervision and appraisal.
  • Identify and address learning needs of your staff.
