Managed by Community Action Isle of Wight, Bay Youth Project offers a range of FREE positive activities (sports, arts, cultural activities), developmental opportunities (formal & informal education) & a voice for young people for 46 weeks of the year.
The project is primarily open to young people aged 10-18 years who LIVE or are EDUCATED in Sandown, Lake and Shanklin.
The staff undertake weekly detached youth work sessions in area and have led and collaborated on some major capital funding bids to improve recreational facilities in the area for young people & wider community including the old Sandown Town Hall renovation to become a youth centre.
The Projects supports two Youth Forums that meet regularly to give young people a voice locally and wider. Their motto is “Nothing about us without us”
Getting on Track Bay Youth Project
Getting on Track Bay Youth Project was 1 of 3 national case studies for Ministry of Justice – tackling youth offending and re- offending using sports and physical activity.
Celebration Event
On The Trouville Hotel in Sandown played host to a celebration of the achievements of young people who have, for the last 18 months, been involved with the Bay Area Youth Project. The project is the brainchild of Julian Wadsworth, the Community Resilience Coordinator for the Bay area, and Youth Intervention Development Officer with IW Community Action

Sport For Development
With the Sandown Bay area starved of free youth activities for the past five years, alongside the police’s concerns about increased anti-social behaviour, the Bay Area Youth Project was established in 2022 — and has gone from strength-to-strength.
The project offers free sports sessions to children aged ten to 18 years old, who live or go to school in the Bay area.
