Veterans Outreach Support – Offering Free services to Veterans
Every third Wednesday of every month from 12 to 5pm, The Veterans Outreach Service are at the Riverside.
The Veterans Outreach Service Clinical Team includes mental health professionals with a wealth of experience of working with ex-service personnel. All VOS’s services are free to service users.
Former members of all British Armed Forces and Reserves, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and the Merchant Navy are all welcome. Do you know a Veteran who could benefit from our services? Please spread the word!
Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) has grown in expertise, capability and capacity and is funded by a number of generous national military charities to deliver its invaluable service to veterans and their families. A registered Charity, established for 10 years VOS received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service and hosted over 500 visits a year, averaging 45 per month (recently increasing to 60) in Portsmouth.
In a bid to improve and extend its services, VOS recently launched a Drop-In for Veterans at the Riverside Centre, in Newport on the Isle of Wight. A grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund has enabled it to set up a monthly Drop In for veterans; a friendly and informal environment where personnel from all services including the Merchant Navy and their immediate families and get on-the-spot general welfare, wellbeing and mental health support.
Are you able to help? Veterans Outreach Support is currently seeking suitable volunteers to run the reception, host veterans and support with the smooth running of the Drop-In. The role includes: meeting and greeting, attending to veterans and families, co-ordinating appointments between Service Users and visiting Delivery Partners, completing registration paperwork, providing support and reassurance to Service Users waiting for appointments plus assisting with the supply of refreshments. The commitment is one afternoon per month on the 3rd Wednesday of every month from 1230-1800. The individual must be 18+, training is provided, references will be required.
